Get Ready for The Weeknd

The Weeknd is also known as Abel Tesfaye, a sensual singing sensation who has got the RnB game in a frenzy. The Toronto born singer is only 21 and already has fellow Canadian Drizzy Drake holding his corner, as well as rumoured collabos with Frank Ocean and Chris Brown in the works. His debut mixtape has won awards and is making massive waves in urban music. The Weeknd is about to blow.

Hearing The Weeknds music is RnB in a different league. If you need a comparison to help set the picture, this is the best I can do – his lyrical content is similar to Drakes, his vocal chords are reminiscent of Trey Songz, but he has an alternative edge which reminds me of Frank Ocean. He can orchestrate a song like an angel but his lyrics tell a different tale. He talks candidly about drugs, is frequently dirty and on occasions disturbing as he describes the darkest places of the inner psyche with such brazen simplicity. I like it.

His debut album House of Balloons has been available to cop for free online for sometime now. If you haven’t got it then don’t waste any more time:

Drake has co-signed the singer, linking him to his OVO (Octobers Very Own) page and Twitter. The I’m on One rapper has made it known that Abel is “somebody I love with all my heart.” Drake also said that they have already put some time in at the studio. That is something I can’t wait to hear.

Not content with dropping one free mixtape this year, the singer who has already been given the responsibility of resurrecting RnB is dropping a second EP this summer called Thursdays. His third EP Echoes of Silence will be released in the Autumn.
