Dictator

Dictator, your love is cruel and commanding

You hand it out in drips and drabs so I’m euphoric when you mark my skin and make my insides ache

This is how you retain power for inconceivable lengths of time

Let me give you a lesson on dictatorship, dear reader

Feed a lover decadence they’ve never known and whilst they’re still dizzy on endorphins, leave them hungry

Just them and their imagination waiting for their next bite, that will overthrow a sane mind

Only feed them again when they’re about to riot, and make it a meal they won’t forget

Every drop causes a crash in the ocean, like a storm after weeks of drought

Now I celebrate every time I get a taste of the rain
